Next Lunch – June 20th

Apologies for not updating the website for a while, but other events have got in the way over the past weeks. This is just a little note to remind everyone that the next Oldboys & Girls Lunch will be at “The Cricketers”, Guildford, on Thursday 20th June at 12:00 for 12:30.

It must be nearly 20 years ago that we first visited Guildford (Ed & Ieuan will hopefully confirm that!) – an awful lot of water …. and beer….and wine has flowed under the bridge since then. If you haven’t been before, do come along and meet up with old friends. (But, please let me know if you are coming by Monday 17th!)

Apologies

I must apologise to all those people who have sent me material over the last few weeks and haven’t had a reply. I made the mistake of re-contracting my BT broadband rather than just letting it happen naturally. As a result of a ‘problem’ with their records I seem to have become a new connection with the result that my line speed dropped dramatically, became very unstable and I lost all the advantages of ADSL2+.
After many attempts to get some sense I have just (last night) been properly re-connected, but, currently, the line is now trying to re-adapt to my ‘new’ ADSL2+ status by dropping and connecting very minute or so!
Stability should return in a few days ………….. they say.

Help Wanted

I’ve just had an inquiry from Steve Burgess, used to be in Studio Engineering, who has just acquired an Ampex Mk XX head assembly (AVR1, ACR25).

He wonders if anyone out there has a Mk XX test stand or access to a set of AVR1 or ACR25 manuals?

Anyone who can help/suggest a contact, drop me an email and I will pass it on to Steve.

New Venue for Oldboys Lunch

Yesterday’s Oldboys lunch was at a new venue, “The Black Horse” at Chorleywood Common. Chose by Howard Dell after a strenuous time spent trying different pubs in the area it proved to be a very good choice indeed. Pictures of the event are now in Past Events, Current Lunch.

The food was excellent and the portions so generous virtually everyone had the ‘small’ version! It was good to welcome Nick Pitt and Ian Howlett as well as Bernard Trim who will be unknown to many of you. His connection with VT machines was connected with their use as data recorders …… a subject still subject to the OSA!

Welcome to the new version of Happenings.

For quite a while I have been thinking about a better way of recording the events, information and disconnected things to do with the VT Oldboys. So, I have decided to attempt a Blog style for Happenings. This gives me the opportunity to categorise, back track and archive entries – it also gives you the opportunity to add your own comments (moderated, of course, to avoid the junk that clogs up the Guest Book).

I’ve copied across the majority of entries from the old version, only omitting time expired information.

Let me know what you think!

Terry Watson RIP

From Bob Tolson

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you my great pal Terry Watson passed away on Wednesday 13th February. He lost a battle with cancer having only been diagnosed with it towards the end of last year. As you probably know, after he retired from the BBC he moved to the Cotswolds with his wife Anne and it is with her that our thoughts are now.
