DE36
Ian Williams sent in a photograph of his DE Course from September 1973, but couldn’t remember the number of the course. That mystery has now been solved by Bob James – it was DE36 – and Bob should know, he was sitting in the front row!

Ian was the first guy I met at the BBC, walking up the WN drive from the car park on Day One. I’m still at the BBC. But it could have been different:
Ferdinand was from the EBU, having driven over from Belgium in his Renault 4. One night he was driving us back to WN from the town Club when I noticed my side of the car was consistently only a few feet from the right hand kerb of the B4084. I politely reminded of the driving convention in the UK, and he calmly swerved back to the correct side of the road. It could so easily have been a short BBC career!
