Overnight I received the following sad news from Andre Ingram (BBC SCPD 1977 to 1996):
It is with great sadness that I bring the news of the passing of Ian Andy Andrews last night after a very short period of illness following a fall.
David , Ian’s son has asked me to say a few words at the funeral.
I have known Ian and David for 34 years and of that time whilst I was in SCPD telecine and later VT section he guided me and many others in his kind gentle manner.
I would like some possible reminiscences of other past BBC staff members.
Could you possibly send out an email asking people to contact me.
I will email you when I know the details of the funeral.
I’ll post further details as I receive them.
At last Thursday’s Television Recording Christmas Lunch I was given a document that may well be of interest to many of you – especially those of a ‘certain age. It’s the December 1961 Staff List.
1961 Staff List
This should have been posted yesterday, but the latest Windows 10 upgrade has created havoc here, and I’m only just able to handle graphics etc!!!
PS This will also go in the 1961 section on the main menu.
PPS. Pictures from the Christmas Lunch online by Monday.
I’ve just received this from Anthony Pugh:-
Thought I would let you know that Roger Smeathers passed away in hospital on Sunday 8th November 2015 following a short illness. He worked in VT at Alexandra Palace after training at Wood Norton in the mid 60’s, Roger went on to joined ATV/Central TV in Birmingham where he worked in the VTR Dept until 2003 when he retired. I expect that some of your VT old boys will remember him.
As yet no date set for Roger’s funeral.
Dennis Collett passed on details of Ian’s funeral today.
It will be on Thursday, May 28th, at 11.30.

I have just seen a post on Facebook by Peter Cleaver reporting the death of Ian Smith.
“He was a true gentleman producer who was very caring of his craft, his programmes and specially the people with whom he worked. BBC Events were richer because of him. It was a real pleasure to have known and worked with him.”
More information when I get it.
Firstly, some manuals free to a good home!
Bob Pratt is having a clear out of his cupboards and has the following looking for a good home (or else they will go in the skip).
The two volume maintenance sets for an AVR2 and a BVW75.
Bob can be contacted via me – I will pass on his email address to you.
Robin Hall has just sent me this link – might be worth a browse around…..
I think I have now finished re-linking all the photographs that got lost in the recent security upgrade – if anyone finds a broken link, please let me know!
We’ve just had a security upgrade which seems to have upset quite a few older posts and photos.
I will get down to repairing the links (again!)
Just received my copy of “Prospero” and discovered that Victor had passed away. Many of our ‘older’ Oldboys will remember him – see Obituaries for the full article.
